DDA vacancy
The town of Mt. Crested Butte has a vacancy on the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) board, which provides guidance for future development within the town’s downtown/base area. To date, the town has not received any letters of interest. To qualify for a board seat, a person must live within the DDA boundaries, own property in the DDA or be a major player in a business within the DDA.
Homestead rentals
The town’s Homestead affordable housing project is nearing completion, with all 22 units closing. Paving and seeding are in progress and expected to be completed this fall before the snow flies. The town owns two of the units and plans to lease them to renters who meet Homestead’s deed restriction criteria. During the September 2 meeting, the council approved leasing the town-owned residential properties and the ability to execute one-year leases of the units. The town has begun advertising for the units, with the goal to have people in them as soon as possible.
Snodgrass reroute petition
During public comment on September 2, Graham Elliot spoke to the Mt. Crested Butte town council about a citizen’s initiative to reroute the Snodgrass Trail to be entirely on public lands. Elliot asked the council for a letter of support as the group petitions the reroute to the Forest Service. “It’s a pity we don’t get to enjoy it in the fall,” he said, noting the seasonal closure. “It would be nice if we could get that rerouted and moved about 400 feet north of the trail and have it entirely on public lands. It’s a win-win situation for the recreation community and the landowner.” He added, “We have over 700 signatures and we do have support of CBMBA (Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association). CBMBA has a great record of moving trails from private to public land.”
The council expressed interest in discussing the topic at their next meeting. “I would like to entertain the discussion because I do support it,” said councilmember Alec Lindeman.
Honoring Jamie Watt
The town council recognized Jamie Watt for his 20+ years of service to the town, having served on the Planning Commission and Downtown Development Authority (DDA) board during that time. Mayor Nicholas Kempin presented Watt with a plaque of appreciation.
