Gunnison Area Plan public hearing continued
Commissioners held a highly contentious joint public hearing with the county’s planning commission on Thursday, September 18 to discuss the proposed Gunnison Area Plan. County staff and the city of Gunnison developed the plan over the past year to comply with state requirements for a three-mile plan and includes special area regulations to guide where and how housing, agriculture, open space and commercial development will be prioritized. With a great deal of public commentary, primarily from residents of Dos Rios, the meeting was continued to October 23.
New county treasurer appointed
During their September 16 meeting Gunnison County commissioners appointed Theresa Brown as Gunnison County treasurer, which will be effective beginning October 1. Brown was appointed to replace retiring county treasurer Debbie Dunbar and her appointment will be in place until the 2026 election. Gunnison County clerk Kathy Simillion swore her in.
