CBSAR ready to move in
[ By Mark Reaman ]After several months of delay caused by a nagging disagreement over a quick termination clause in the proposed lease, Crested Butte Search and Rescue (CBSAR) reached an agreement with the Crested Butte Fire Protection District (CBFPD) and both boards approved the document this week. The latest lease structure has a 35-year initial term with five-year renewals up to 100 years. CBSAR can terminate the lease any time with a 30-day notice while the fire protection district can terminate the lease no earlier than 35 years from now and must provide a five-year notice.
“I think this will do a good job of balancing long-term stability for CBSAR while giving future CBFPD boards the ability to manage the taxpayer-owned property over the long-term,” commented CBFPD chief executive officer Sean Caffrey. “I fully expect we will be neighbors with CBSAR for many decades, if not a century, to come.”
“We are ready to put this behind us, move into the new facility and continue to provide our services to the community,” said CBSAR president Randy Felix. “CBSAR’s new lease with the Fire Protection District will help ensure our organization is housed in a professional facility for the next 40 years, with options to renew for up to 100 years. CBSAR is deeply grateful to the public for its continued support, and we look forward to maintaining our positive and collaborative relationship with the Crested Butte Fire Protection District.”
CBSAR will pay $10/year and all its own utilities, except gas. The vehicle bays are heated from the CBFPD building boiler plant and CBSAR will pay a percentage of that bill based on use.
Felix said CBSAR will start moving some vehicles and equipment over as soon as possible. “We have a lot of logistical items to work out with the move and need to do things in an organized manner. The bulk of the move-in will most likely take place on one of our bimonthly scheduled training nights,” he said.
