Four council members to be appointed to the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council

No election needed

No election will be held for the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council this year. There were four positions open, and four candidates threw their hats into the ring.

According to Jill Lindros, town clerk and designated election official, sitting councilmembers Nicholas Kempin and Ken Lodovico as well as Mt. Crested Butte residents Janet Farmer and Bill Thompson turned in petitions to run for council.

Because there were four positions open, council can cancel the election. At the February 2 council meeting, Lindros informed the council that they will entertain a resolution to cancel the election and appoint the four individuals to council at an upcoming meeting. She and town attorney Kathy Fogo are working on the wording of the resolution.

“Timing is not an issue. We have until about March 17 to get the resolution to you,” Lindros said.

The new councilmembers will be sworn in at the April 5 meeting. A new mayor to replace outgoing mayor David Clayton will be appointed by council at the same meeting.

Clayton and councilmember Gary Keiser are both term-limited and will step down from council on April 5.
