Mash your pedals one last time

Griggs Orthopedics is hosting the inaugural Romp in the Rocks at Hartman Rocks on Saturday, October 7 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. While race organizers admit it can be grueling, the event can also be a fun time with solo and team categories available, all the while raising awareness for the Go Girl and Go Guy programs. Plus, you could win a pair of ROMP skis.
Located at the infamous Hartman Rocks Recreation Area, this race will be a timed lap event for soloists, duos, or teams wishing to test their stamina for 12 hours riding some of the best singletrack that Gunnison Valley has to offer and all at the best time of the year to do it—October, or Roctober.
Race headquarters will be at the base area of Hartman Rocks, and the course itself will be about 11.2 miles in length and will feature Hartman’s best trails, including some technical singletrack and lots of flowing downhills.
One thing race organizers want to emphasize is Be Prepared. It’s October, and while the forecast looks great for race day, it can get cold when that sun goes down or when the wind kicks up, so be prepared for possible sub-freezing temperatures.
Registration will be available online until 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, with no registrations past Thursday evening. Bib pick up will be Friday, October 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hartman Rocks Pavilion (starting area).
The cost is $150 for solo riders, $200 for duo team, $400 for teams of three to four (male/female/coed) and $250 for family teams (at least three members of the same family).
All proceeds for this race will go toward helping the gO Initiative fulfill its mission by keeping kids and adults healthy and active physically and mentally. In addition, the event will be supporting the BLM and Gunnison Trails work in keeping Hartman Rocks sustainable, tidy and enjoyable for all.
