CB Sixth Street road closure delayed until Monday, May 7

The expected road closure at the south entrance to the town of Crested Butte has been delayed a week. According to Crested Butte public works director Rodney Due, the town of Crested Butte was notified at the end of last week that the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) engineers did not receive all the information they needed from the Center for the Arts road project. Therefore, CDOT did not allow the expected work to commence on Sixth Street/Hwy. 135 the week of April 30 as previously expected.

The road closure on Sixth Street at the southern entrance to town will now be pushed back to the week of May 7, when the CDOT maintenance crew will start repaving the road between Red Lady Avenue and the Four-Way Stop at Sixth and Elk Avenue. Detours will be in place at Red Lady Avenue. Due said that road work project should be finished Friday, May 11.

Theresa Henry of Mountain Express said that, “during the road closure, the Sixth and Belleview stop will be closed. We are encouraging riders to use the Fifth and Whiterock or Four-Way Stops instead.”

The town does not have any details on when the Center for the Arts roadwork will begin.
