Get tuned up for Gunnison Growler Spring Series

Gunnison Trails will host the fifth annual Growler Spring Series mountain bike races at Hartman Rocks Recreation Area, with three races on the Thursday evenings of April 29, May 13, and May 20, leading up to the 64-mile Original Growler on May 30.
Registration for these races will begin at the base area of Hartman at 5 p.m. and the race will start at 5:45. There will be three race categories for each gender: Beginner, Sport, and Expert.
The cost to enter each race is $20; entry fees benefit the Gunnison Trails Non-Profit Organization. Gunnison Trails’ mission is to work with public land managers and other stakeholders to enhance human-powered singletrack trail opportunities on the public lands throughout the Gunnison Valley.
Gunnison Trails maintains and upgrades existing trails, educates trails users, proposes, gains approval for, and constructs new trails and new trail systems.
These races are whatever the participant wants them to be—they’re only races if people want them to be. Less competitive and more recreational riders can start at the back, take time and enjoy a well-marked tour of classic Gunnison Valley singletrack.
Typical trails used at Hartman Rocks are Jack’s, Josho’s, Josie’s, Rocky Ridge, Collarbone Alley and Top O’ the World. A typical race usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes, depending upon how competitive or relaxed the riders are.
Thanks to Pie Zans, the main sponsor of this event, there will be free pizza after the first and third races for all participants; and 50 percent off anything on the menu after the second race.
There will also be free beer to all racers, no matter how fast they travel the course.
