Ski racers in Crested Butte Academy’s alpine team had a strong start to the 2007-2008 winter with good race results in Colorado and Canada.
Post graduate racers Tim and Liz Woods competed in the elite NorAm Cup at Lake Louise, Canada in one of their favored events, the downhill. Liz skied exceptionally well to finish 16th (1:32.88) on Thursday, December 6 and 15th (1:32.11) on Friday, December 7. Brother Tim managed 67th (1:31.22) and improved on day two with a 60th-place finish (1:29.72).
In the new Colorado FIS series, the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup, Max Lamb raced skillfully in the slalom at Winter Park on Sunday, December 9. Lamb skied dynamically on both runs (17th and 15th place) to finish 19th overall with the time of 1:44.96.
Alex Jerred skied the slalom in the new junior FIS series in Colorado, the Colorado Junior Ski Cup at Loveland. Jerred skied well on Saturday, December 8 to finish 20th with the time of 1:27.45 and 29th on Sunday (1:33.89).
Director of alpine racing Drew Cesati is very pleased with his team’s results thus far.
“Overall, it was a good beginning to the season for our group. For Lizzie to be pulling down those kinds of results this early in her comeback is outstanding. As for the rest of the crew, the quality is there—now we just need a full day of execution,” said Cesati.
