Laura Mitchell stepping down from CB town council

Applications being accepted until June 3

[ By Mark Reaman ]

The Town of Crested Butte is looking to fill a seat on town council. Councilwoman Laura Mitchell has submitted her resignation and will step down at the end of this month.

Mitchell, who has served five-and-a-half years on the council, sold her house in Crested Butte this month and will be relocating to Gunnison. Because a council representative must reside in Crested Butte, she must relinquish her seat.

Town will be accepting applications to fill her position until June 3. At the June 7 meeting, the sitting town council will choose her replacement. That replacement will serve until November when he or she must run for election.

Qualifications include being at least 18 years old and being a registered voter that has lived within the town boundaries for at least one year.

Any interested party should contact Rob Zillioux at the town hall for more information or call 970-349-5338. The expectation is that the sitting council will choose a representative at the June 7 council meeting.
