And on the national scene…

From the Associated Press—”Texas is now the first state with a law requiring drillers to publicly disclose the chemicals they use when extracting oil and gas from dense rock formations.”
If even Texas, not exactly known as a left-wing, anti-business commie pinko state, is requiring that drillers publicly disclose what’s in fracking fluid, Gunnison County should be able to do the same in order to protect our water, and land.

From the Canadian Press—”The Obama administration has said its goal in continuing the Afghan war, now in its 10th year, is to blunt the Taliban insurgency and dismantle and defeat al-Qaida, the terror network that used Afghanistan as a training ground for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.”
By all accounts, Al Qaida hasn’t had a presence in Afghanistan for many years and the President might recall he approved an effective stealth mission recently that ended in the shooting of Osama bin Laden—in Pakistan. It is time for a real major withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, not a small pull back that the administration tags as “major.” After a decade of war with more than 1,500 American deaths and close to $500 billion spent, it’s over. Bring them all home.

From Politico—”Obama didn’t win many converts on Capitol Hill last week when he informed Congress that he doesn’t believe he needs lawmakers’ approval for U.S. operations in Libya because they are, in his opinion, “distinct from the kind of ‘hostilities’ contemplated by the War Powers Act.” Boehner said that interpretation doesn’t meet the “straight-face test.”
If any president including this one can’t come to our elected representatives and explain the need to continue military actions in a place like Libya, he should get out of there as well. Preemptive war is never a good idea. I said the same thing when George W. Bush used it as a bad excuse in Iraq and I’ll say it again when Barack Obama uses it as an excuse to continue bombing Libya.
