Gunnison County chief financial officer Perry Solheim reported that the county saw a small contraction in tax revenue in April. “The good news is that there was a sales tax increase over the prior year as online sales continue to grow,” he said at the June 20 meeting. 

“Seeing a .6% contraction in April isn’t bad considering the ski area closed earlier this year than last,” noted commissioner Laura Puckett Daniels. January, February and March gained in taxable sales over 2022, at 7%, 9% and 3%, respectively.

Solheim said the cold, wet spring probably delayed some construction projects so there could be a surge in buying as the weather warms. 

Commissioner Jonathan Houck said recent projections also indicate this summer could be busier than last so an increase in sales tax might be expected as a result.

Almont subdivision okayed

The commissioners approved a minor impact subdivision proposal for the Salsbury subdivision plat in Almont.
