Crested Butte Titans to host first ever Homecoming weekend in September

Soccer and volleyball take on top league competition

For the first time since 1967, the Crested Butte Community School is hosting an official Homecoming Weekend on Friday and Saturday, September 7-8.
“We needed to raise school spirit and get the kids and community excited about what it is to be a Titan,” says community school athletics director Julia Kidd.
The Titan Booster Club and the PTA are spearheading the effort with activities all week long in school.
Titans soccer and volleyball are hosting some intense league play that weekend and could use all of the hometown support to help propel them to victory.
The school will be celebrating school spirit all week, bringing it to a climax on Friday with a pep rally during the high school lunch, starting at 1:15 p.m.
The Titans soccer team will host the Telluride Miners Friday afternoon at Rainbow Field with the varsity kicking off at 4 p.m. and the JV playing at 6 p.m. There will be a student/staff bike parade from the school to Rainbow immediately after school to rally the troops for the game. The Booster Club will fire up the grill for a BBQ starting at 5:30 p.m. at Rainbow field and the community is encouraged to come out and watch the two teams battle.
The action continues on Saturday, September 8 in mighty Mt. Olympus (the school gym) as the Titans volleyball team takes on Cripple Creek and South Park starting at 11 a.m.
The school would like the entire community to come out and support local high school sports and pack the sidelines at Rainbow Field on Friday and then pack Mt. Olympus on Saturday.
“We’d like to bring the school and community together in support of our high school sports programs,” says Kidd.
“Telluride is always tough and they’re gaining strength every year,” adds Titans soccer coach Than Acuff. “We’ll have our hands full and could use all the support we can get for this classic mountain town rivalry.”
“The girls have been working really hard and it would be great to get some support,” says volleyball coach Marla Covey. “Volleyball is rally intensive and a raucous crowd can make all the difference in the world.”
The week closes with a staff v. students softball game on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Tommy V Field and the time-honored homecoming dance Saturday night.
