Solar farm and climate plan
In a report to the Crested Butte council at the April 7 meeting, it was reported that the Oh Be Joyful solar array project is moving forward. The Gunnison County Electric Association will own and operate the solar farm and is purchasing equipment for the site. Outshine Energy is acting as the general contractor. No timeline for construction is yet set. Speaking of climate stuff, the Crested Butte council will give the proposed Climate Action Plan another look, and possibly approve it after changes are presented at the April 21 meeting.
Moldy mobile home
A roof leak in a town-owned mobile home used for employee housing opened the proverbial can of worms that exposed extensive mold in the unit. As a result, the town expects to remove the structure and sell the land while keeping a deed restriction on the property.
Garbage plan
Council approved the 2025-2030 Refuse and Recycling Collection and Disposal Agreement with Waste Management. As part of the contract the company will work with the town to implement as “Pay as You Throw” program by the end of 2025. Waste Management will provide necessary materials, including bins and educational materials. The town will structure pricing on 32-gallon, 64-gallon and 96-gallon bins “to further incentivize households to convert to smaller bin sizes.” The idea is that will move people to prioritize recycling and composting instead of just throwing things into the garbage can.
Waste Management will also continue to assist the town in exploring curbside composting options, specifically, solutions that pair with the Pay as You Throw program.
