Expanding both beginner and advanced terrain

Crested Butte Mountain Resort has been a hub of activity this summer, hosting a flurry of events, races and concerts, as well as some new trail-building projects. Recently, the mountain introduced two new hiking and biking trails to the resort, in addition to finishing up one major bike trail rebuild.
The first new trail, Fangorn, is an advanced, multi-use/multi-directional trail that can be accessed from the top of the Red Lady Express lift, goes through the East River forest and eventually connects to Meander.
“It’s been in the works for over a decade, so we’re excited to finally have it open for bikers and hikers this summer,” said CBMR communications manager Katie Lyons.
The other new trail is a beginner trail built with adaptive athletes in mind. This new trail is also located at the top of the Red Lady Express lift and connects to the resort “5-Way,” from where riders can take two other beginner trails, Awakening, followed by Down Time, back down to the base area.
“It’s on schedule to be complete before the end of the summer season and is a great place for “never-ever” beginners to learn how to bike, or explore the resort using an adaptive bike,” said Lyons. This new trail will be named upon completion, according to Lyons.
In addition to these two new trails, Timeline also underwent a major rebuild this summer. According to Lyons, it is CBMR’s first true pro line, with an eight-foot drop, a 20-foot gap and a 20-foot step down. The rebuild is complete and Timeline is now open to riders.
“We’re excited for expert riders to come check it out and test their mettle on some of the toughest downhill MTB terrain CBMR has to offer,” said Lyons.
CBMR will continue to be open daily through September 1, with extended Twilight Hours on Wednesday and Friday evenings through August 15. In September, summer operations will be available on Saturdays and Sundays through September 28.
