Each year, the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association (CBMBA) calls on volunteers to come out for a full weekend of trail work and good times and the call is out for this weekend Saturday and Sunday, August 16-17 as CBMBA looks to finish up the Lake Irwin trail.
The point of these overnights is to get deep in there, and because of that, volunteers stay there overnight. Work will begin on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. We’ll break up into multiple groups, each with a crew leader, and head to a section of trail for instruction followed by construction. After a full day of work, everyone will head back to the campsite at 4 p.m. to enjoy plenty of libations, followed by stellar raffle prizes and backcountry catering by Rim Tours and then encouraged to camp out on site and enjoy some laughs under the stars.
Volunteers will then wake up Sunday morning to coffee, breakfast and a make-your-own sandwich bar provided by Rim Tours, before getting back to work.
Bring work gloves, long pants, hat, boots or sturdy shoes, backpack for items you want on the trail, water and snacks for Saturday (we recommend you carry two liters on trail), sunscreen, camping gear and warm clothes for Saturday night. Lots of water – can’t have enough. Bring enough food outside of the meals that Rim Tours will provide. Bring a towel so you can enjoy the Norra Dalen Nordic Sauna and then jump into Lake Irwin. All necessary tools for trail work and backcountry bathrooms will be provided by CBMBA.
There is some planning involved so CBMBA asks that all volunteers RSVP to info@cbmba.org so they can make sure they have plenty of camping reserved and plenty of food to go around.
