Brick Oven beats Bacchanale in final regular season game

Playoffs start Thursday, February 14

Give it up for the Brick Oven waiting until their final game of the town league hockey regular season to record its first win. Watching the Brick Oven win over the Bacchanale on Tuesday, February 12 it’s hard to understand what took them so long.

They skate hard, fast, and as a team firing shots whenever possible. That’s pretty much all you need to be successful in town league. Well, that and Sean Norton and Tom Loughlin who each registered a hat trick in the game.
Neither team warmed up before the game and it showed in the first three minutes as both teams skated around in circles without linking a single pass.
It took Bacchanale skater Cal Ryan to break the ice scoring on a one-man rush as soon as he stepped on the ice.
The Brick Oven tied the game 1-1 seven minutes into the first period when Norton snuck into the slot weak side to receive a pass from Dolly Schaub and score.
Thirty seconds later, Norton snuck through again to score on a rebound to give the Brick Oven a 2-1 lead. The Bacchanale tied the game 2-2 when Pat Hoag slipped a backhand through the five hole but Norton completed his hat trick to put the Brick Oven back on top 3-2.
The Bacchanale tied the game 3-3 with four seconds left in the opening period when GJ Santelli stole the puck in the neutral zone and fed Ryan for the one-on-one goal picking the lower corner.
Brick Oven goalie Reed Schaub came up with a series of saves in the second period and Brick Oven rattled off three unanswered goals by Loughlin. Loughlin scored his first of the three goals on a rebound from a Ben Preston shot, picked the top shelf for his second goal and finished his hat trick scoring on another rebound.
The Bacchanale woke up from its three-goal slumber to respond with two goals and close the Brick Oven lead back down to one.
Paul Tilger broke free for a one-on-one with Schaub. Schaub stacked the pads for the save but Santelli followed to score on the rebound (Jesus Saves… Tim Kerr scores on the rebound).
Ryan added the fifth Bacchanale goal with 56 seconds left in the second period setting the Bacchanale up for a miraculous comeback.
The Brick Oven struck again though early in the third period as James Brennan netted an insurance goal off an assist from Colby Deer.
Dolly iced the win for the Brick Oven when the Bacchanale pulled the goalie with 30 seconds left and she slipped through the slot to receive a pass from Deer and stuff it through the Bacchanale defense closing out the 8-5 Brick oven win.
