Following in mom’s ski tracks

After growing up in Crested Butte and starting his alpine ski racing career with the Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team, Aksel Lindenmeyr stepped up his game moving to Tignes, France in 2021 to attend school and train with Apex2100. Since then, he has qualified for the Junior World Championships (JWC) twice, including taking the silver in the team combined event at the 2026 JWC, and was just named to the US Ski Team C team. Mari Renick, who also got her start in Crested Butte and then moved to Vail with her family, was named to the C Team as well.

Lindenmeyr follows in the footsteps of his mom Wendy Fisher who was on the US Ski Team for seven years and competed at the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France.

“It’s amazing,” says Lindenmeyr. “It’s obviously a huge step in my career and a dream come true.”

He came into the 2025-2026 race season intent on making the US Ski Team after falling shy the year before. After a season he admitted was full of ups and downs, Lindenmeyr finished the final month of racing culminating with a strong showing at the NorAm Championships in Aspen March 19-25 that dropped his world rank below the qualifying threshold for the US team.

“From the beginning of the season I had it on my mind,” says Lindenmeyr. “Last year I was two world spots off making the team and that was tough. I had two of my best results in the Downhill at the NorAm championships and that’s how I made the team.”

He is currently at Copper training on snow until May 21, returns to Crested Butte for 10 days and then is headed to the Center for Excellence in Park City for a month. Following that, Lindenmeyr heads to South America in July for a US Ski Team training camp with the racing season set to start in December. That will have Lindenmeyr racing in the US and Canada on the NorAm circuit as well as in Europa Cup races in Europe as he looks to climb the ranks on the US Ski Team.

“I’ll be racing in all disciplines (Slalom, GS, Super G, Downhill) in NorAms and mainly Downhill and Super G in Europa Cups,” says Lindenmeyr. “There are different criteria for A, B and C teams. You need good results in Europa Cup races and on the World Cup for the A and B team. Obviously, I want to progress, but we’ll see how it plays out from here.”

The good news is that the US Ski Team has a support system in place for their alpine race team and all of Lindenmeyr’s food, travel and hosting is covered when with the US Ski Team. That said, he still needs additional support and is looking to secure sponsors for his helmet and race bib.

“I’m looking to continue this path as my career,” says Lindenmeyr.
