—NOTICE OF GUNNISON COUNTY AND BLM ROAD CLOSURES—
BLM and Forest Service Lands
Gunnison County, Colorado
In addition to the areas of BLM and Forest Service lands currently closed to human use in the Gunnison Basin for the Division of Wildlife’s winter wildlife feeding operation, Gunnison County and the BLM will be closing a number of roads to all motor vehicles to protect Gunnison Sage-grouse during their mating season and to prevent road damage during wet spring conditions. The following roads will be closed from March 15, 2008 through May 15, 2008: Pine Creek, CR #25 – HWY 50 side; Pine Creek, CR #25 – HWY 149 side; Sapinero Mesa, CR #26 – HWY 50 side; Sapinero Mesa, CR #26 – HWY 149 side; Wiley Lane, CR #818 – at Mill Creek Road intersection; Wiley Lane, CR #818 – at cattle guard at private/BLM boundary on south end; Miller Lane, CR #7; Airport Road – at intersection of W Mtn. Ranch Road and CR #38; Sun Park, CR #51B – just past intersection with Overlook Drive; Lost Canyon, CR #743 – at existing winter closure gate; Razor Creek, CR #62 – at private boundary.The following roads will be closed by March 15, but may be closed earlier if muddy conditions exist. They will reopen on May 15, 2007: McCabe Lane, CR #32 – at first cattle guard past Moncrief Ranch; Tomichi Heights, CR #72 – at BLM Boundary; Six Mile Lane, CR #42 – at existing gate on BLM Boundary; South Parlin Flats, CR #43 – at HWY #114 mile marker 7; South Parlin Flats, CR #43 – approx. 0.4 mile from HWY 50; BLM #3038 Kezar Basin – off HWY 149 at powerline; BLM #3038 Nine Mile Hill – west of HWY 149; Pole Creek, CR #61 – off of CR #31-South Willow Creek/Vulcan Road; BLM #3061, Hartman Rocks – south of Powerline; Hartman Rocks Powerline Road; Hartman Rocks West Access; BLM #3061, South Entrance to Hartman Rocks; BLM #3107, Cabin Creek Road; BLM #3106, Dry Gulch Road; BLM #3106, Sewell Rim Road; BLM #3103, North Parlin Flats – off CR #76 – Quartz Creek Road; Woods Gulch South, CR #802 – off CR#44, Woods Gulch Cutoff; Woods Gulch Powerline Access – off CR #44; Woods Gulch South, CR #802 – off CR#44; BLM #3096, Woods Gulch East – off CR#44, south end; BLM #3094, Tomichi Dome Road; South Parlin Flats Access Road – off HWY 114 at mile marker 5; WW13, Camp Kettle Gulch – off HWY 114; WW13 Poverty Gulch – off CR #45; BLM #3073 Krueger Ranch Road (Closure off Hwy 114). A majority of these roads are already closed under the current closure. Three additional roads in the Hartman Rocks area were closed this winter when winter ski trail grooming began. These will reopen when the roads dry out: Hartman Rocks, NW Entrance; BLM #3066, Hartman Rocks – McCabes Lane (CR#32) Entrance; Hartman Rocks Powerline Access – off CR#38, Gold Basin Road. Copies of the closure list and maps are available at Gunnison County Public Works, 811 Rio Grande Avenue; Gunnison County Administration Office, 200 E. Virginia Ave; Colorado Division of Wildlife Office, 300 W. New York; and the Bureau of Land Management/USFS Office, 216 N. Colorado; Gunnison, Colorado. These closures apply to all motor vehicles. Do not park at the closures in a manner that blocks access through the closure gates. The cooperation of the public is required to successfully implement these road closures. The closures will aid in the preservation of the Gunnison Sage-grouse and may assist in reducing impacts on residents and visitors of Gunnison County from a possible Federal listing of the grouse under provisions of the Endangered Species Act. The public should also be aware that the Division of Wildlife has implemented a Temporary Emergency Closure of all hunting and wildlife-related activities in the Gunnison Basin.
