Seeking input for water plan
Town Manager Joe Fitzpatrick urged members of the public to participate in a questionnaire being circulated by the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District and the Gunnison Basin Roundtable.
“They really need public input on this plan. Each basin has a vote. If you look at the public, all the votes are on the Front Range and all the water is on the Western Slope. So it’s going to be quite interesting to see this come together by the governor’s date goal to get these basins together,” Fitzpatrick said. “But it’s very important that the Gunnison Basin get feedback from people in the Gunnison Basin.”

Marble might get broadband
Mt. Crested Butte Mayor David Clayton, who represents the town on the Local Technology Planning Team, told the council the team was applying for a grant to get better broadband into Marble. He said the new program from the Federal Communications Commission got about 1,000 letters of interest from small communities and companies right out of the gate and that Marble was the only community in the county that could be considered unserved for the purposes of the grant.
Council exodus leads to canceled meetings
The end of the season means more Town Council members will be absent from the upcoming meetings than would be present. As a result, the meetings on April 15 and May 20 have been canceled. The next Town Council meeting will be May 6.
Town gets spring road maintenance covered
Gunnison County employees and equipment will continue to keep the main drag in Mt. Crested Butte clear of snow through the spring. After the town’s agreement with the county expired at the end of 2013, the council and county agreed to extend that contract through June 3. “They’ll be getting back with whatever things they want to change. It’s been an excellent relationship and they do a great job for us,” Fitzpatrick said.
