Irwin receives retail liquor license
At an April Gunnison County Board of Commissioners meeting Irwin Backcountry Guides received the green light to serve alcohol at two of its facilities in the Irwin area. After no comment was given during the public hearing process, the commissioners voted unanimously to approve retail liquor license applications for the Movie Cabin and the Parking Barn.
“Irwin Backcountry Guides is applying for the license to ensure responsible consumption of alcohol on the property,” said the company’s legal counsel, Kevin Coates. “Currently guests can have alcohol on the property, but it can not be sold. Once a license is granted, clients will not be able to bring their own alcohol onto the premises.”
Anthracite Bridge to be built
Gunnison County is cooperating with the U.S. Forest Service to build a new bridge across Ruby-Anthracite Creek, as part of the ongoing Crested Butte to Carbondale trail project. About 26 miles of the trail are already complete, and when finished it will travel more than 70 miles between the two communities. The bridge construction will be paid for with grant money.
Land Trust receives nod to move forward with Snodgrass project
The Gunnison County Commissioners have thrown their support behind the Crested Butte Land Trust’s efforts to secure a Great Outdoors Colorado grant for the purchase of Parcel 1 of the Promontory Ranch on the eastern flank of Snodgrass Mountain. The commissioners cited the importance of the scenic views, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities and historic grazing patterns intrinsic to the parcel. In addition, they stated their concerns about maintaining public access to the Snodgrass trail.
“The opportunity for this project to realize numerous conservation goals, while meeting various needs of the community, is tremendous,” wrote the commissioners in a letter to the granting agency.
Possible solution considered for Riverland Fire Issues
After a month of discussion county staff, property owners in the Riverland Industrial Park and the Crested Butte Fire Protection District are continuing to work toward a solution for fire protection in the Riverland area.
The CBFPD is currently considering either an amendment to the fire code or a waiver that would create a solution specific to Riverland’s situation, said Gunnison County Community Development Director Russ Forrest.
“Good progress has been made in the last two weeks and some additional time is now needed to complete a technical discussion regarding water storage and delivery for fire suppression in Riverland,” he added.
