Fourth annual Butte Bouldering Bonanza being held this weekend

Big Crimpin is this Saturday, August 29

The Butte Bouldering Bonanza is this Saturday, August 29. It’s the only outdoor bouldering competition in the Western Slope, returning to the Skyland Boulders just southeast of Crested Butte. While the event has spent the last couple years on hiatus, this year it returns courtesy of the Peaceful Warriors youth climbing team, the Western State College climbing team and Rock and Roll Sports. With its resurrection the event will regain its main purpose of getting local climbers together to celebrate climbing and the community.
A new twist this year will be that the event is held in conjunction with WSC’s Week of Welcome celebration, so the newest members of the climbing community to meet locals.
Things kick off with registration at 8 a.m. at the Four-way Stop in Crested Butte, with climbing starting at 9 a.m. A shuttle will be provided from town to the boulders. Registration can also be done all day up at the boulders, if climbers are not able to make the registration in the morning. Climbing will go until 7 p.m. The fee to climb in the Bonanza is $5.
Parking is not allowed at the Club at Crested Butte to access the Skyland Boulders, and along the roads through Skyland. The best way to access the boulders is to park in town and walk (or better yet bike) up Tony’s Trail, which can be accessed from the eastern end of Elk Ave.
