Local runners take on the Big Apple 3 decks

New York Road Runners XC Championships

Crested Butte’s Team Prep showed up big in Van Courtland Park in the borough of the Bronx, New York City, led by Jack Linehan and Camille Logan.

Linehan finished ninth overall out of the entire field of 344 runners and set his first time as a cross-country runner at 16:27 on the three-mile course.
Coach Trent Sanderson said Linehan ran incredibly at the race and his future is looking bright. Jack is starting to get official visits from top Division I programs throughout the nation. It will be exciting to see what Jack does in the 1,600-meters this spring for the Crested Butte Community School track team.
Nicholas Harper-Johnston ran a personal best in his career to take 44th overall in the field with a time of 18:02, Kelli Hargrove ran a huge personal best dropping over two minutes for a time of 22:53.
Logan, from Littleton High School, led the girls, taking second overall in the women’s field, running the course in a time of 18:24. Erin Kelly carried her momentum from her successful cross-country season this fall to finish sixth overall in the women’s field with a time of 18:42. Monica (Jersey) Kinsella ran a personal best of 19:48 and Rachel Schmalze finished seventh overall in the women’s field out of 111 runners at 18:46.
It was an educational trip as well—the student athletes got to see ground zero and history throughout the city of New York. Team Prep’s next venture is Chicago over Thanksgiving break, for the Footlocker Midwest Championships.
