New youth mountain biking team starts first season

Future Dave Wiens in the making

The valley’s newest mountain bike team, Cyclism Junior Development Mountain Biking Team (CJDT), began its season Monday evening at Hartman Rocks. The team of five riders and two coaches enjoyed a great first group ride, while picking up some fantastic instruction from head coach Tim Curry.
Curry, a Crested Butte native and member of the Western State College Mountain Biking Team, is also a “level 1” USA Cycling certified coach who is very excited to instill a love of mountain biking in the next generation.
The CJDT is a brand new team in the Gunnison Valley that is dedicated to developing a junior racing team as well as helping junior mountain bikers of all levels improve their biking skills, fitness and knowledge base. This group is also committed to fostering an environment that will help team members grow their passion for the outdoors, commit to a lifestyle of health and wellness, and build their excitement for pursuing challenging goals.
The CJDT team will meet in Gunnison on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. at the base area of Hartman Rocks from now through the end of August.
In addition there will be several meetings in Crested Butte on Thursdays at 7 p.m. The team will also race on three occasions this summer at the CBMR Powerade Pinnacle Series. Stay tuned for those results. For more information, or to find out how to join this exciting new team, go to http://cyclism.terapad.com, or call Tim Curry at 596-1798.
