Junior Nordic Team brings hardware home from Durango qualifying races

The Crested Butte Junior Nordic Team (CBNT) competed this last week down in Durango, at the Durango, Rocky Mountain Nordic, Junior National Qualifying Races. The athletes from Crested Butte skied great, bringing home some hardware and great memories.
Ian Boucher battled hard and posted a sixth-place showing in the 5 km skate race on Sunday. Boucher is lining himself up to qualify for the Junior National Championships in Presque Isle, Maine in March.
Sara Sherman continues to show improvement and posted a couple of top-notch results in both the classic sprint race and the 5 km distance skate race.
Sofia Deer also proved she can ski on this high-end regional level.
Robbie Hildebrandt raced in the J5 age category and posted two top-five results this weekend. Robbie will be a force on the circuit in no time.
Western State College and CBNT skier Chris Lange skied to the best results of his career by posting two podium races in the classic sprint and the 15 km skate race. Forrest Smith is on fire— skiing to a solid third-place effort in the classic sprint and a fourth-place finish in the 3 km skate race.
Pharwit Durgan continued to prove he can ski with anyone on the circuit with a solid second-place showing in the 3 km skate event. Pharwit also won the weekend’s sportsmanship award for being super positive and always encouraging his teammates and competitors.
The CBNT will continue their season in less than two weeks in Heber City, Utah at the Western United States Regional Qualifier on the 2002 Olympic Race Courses. Stay tuned.
