Crested Butte U12, U14 Panthers battle in league hockey action

Goal frenzy

The last couple of weeks have been hectic for Crested Butte Pink Panther teams. The Panthers opened on January 13 in Gunnison to take on the U12 Blades. The Panthers out-shot the Blades 23 to 11 and Hailey Pike had four goals and two assists in the 8-2 rout.
That same night Crested Butte’s U14 team tilted with the Gunnison U14 squad. Despite a Panther barrage of 30 shots to 11, Gunnison managed to eke out a 2-1 win. Gunnison’s Marissa Danos scored with three seconds left. On January 17 Crested Butte traveled to play Summit in two U12 league games. Summit is the #1 team in the U12 division, yet Crested Butte gave them two good games.
Kaitlyn Seifert had a goal and an assist for the Panthers. In the second game, Crested Butte skated better but still fell short 1-6.
Steamboat came to Gunnison for league action on January 23. Crested Butte’s U12 team dominated the game 4-0. Elizabeth Stepanek had a goal, Pike added two and Crested Butte’s Izzie Dethloff recoded the shut out. U14 action was next as the Steamboat Skiers took on Crested Butte’s U14 team and the teams skated to a 1-1 draw. Ali Sunter scored for the Panthers.
The second U12 game was all Panthers as they out-shot the Skiers 19 to 4 in a 4-1 Crested Butte win.
Game two in U14 action was an incredible game to watch. Both teams played hard with Steamboat taking the contest 3-2 with Ali McGuire scoring twice for Crested Butte.
Next up for Crested Butte was the Aspen Leafs for a four-game series. In the first U12 game Aspen skated to a 2-0 win.
Aspen U14 team dominated the Panther U14 squad in their first game 7-0.
Game two in U12 action went Aspen’s way again as they skated to 4-1 win over the Panthers. Pike had the lone Crested Butte tally.
U14 game two was a great game, pitting the Leafs’ Arianna Buxman and Panther captain Marissa Lambert. Aspen won the contest 2-1 with Seifert netting Crested Butte’s goal.
Last weekend the Panther U12 team hosted the Santa Fe Mustangs in Gunnison. Crested Butte took game one 10-1 with Maddie Lambert scoring twice and Seifert getting the hat trick. Crested Butte out-shot the Mustangs 23 to 3.
In game two Mallory Mikeska had the hat trick in a 6-2 Crested Butte rout. Seifert added three assists.
Up next the U12 team travels to Arvada for the final week of U12 league play. Crested Butte’s U14 team will play their very important rematch with the Blades next week in Gunnison.
