Town receives six applications for dispensaries

Let the process begin

Everyone waited until the last day, and most waited until the last minute, but out of 24 requests for applications to establish medical marijuana dispensaries in Crested Butte, six were returned Monday, March 1.

Monday was the deadline under the town ordinance regulating dispensaries. A $1,000 fee accompanied each application, two from local applicants and one each from Durango, Salida, Boulder and Texas. The town wants to review the applications before releasing the names of the applicants.
Under the recently enacted medical marijuana ordinance, the town manager will now begin evaluating the applications to make sure the extensive paperwork is complete. If not, the applicants have until April 10 to provide any missing documentation. At that time it will be determined if a lottery is needed since under the town law regulating such dispensaries, only five such permits may be issued.
After the initial screening by the town manager, the Crested Butte Marshal’s Department, the Board of Zoning and Architectural Review (BOZAR) and the town clerk’s office will also conduct extensive reviews of qualified applicants.
If all the details are approved, medical marijuana dispensaries could be up and running in the Crested Butte commercial zone by sometime this summer.
