No School November 5
Teachers will be participating in a staff development program on Friday, November 5. As a result, there will be no school for students. Enjoy the day.

 

 

 

CBCS Accountability Committee Meeting
A meeting of the CBCS Accountability Committee was held on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 4 p.m. in Room #D232 in order to view a power point presentation about “Seek the Peak.” The committee also resumed its election of committee members for two-year terms. Seats still up for election include: Grade K-5 parent; Grade 9-12 parent; Grade K-12 parent. Parents interested in serving in one of these seats are requested to attend the November 3 meeting or to indicate their interest to the CBCS school office prior to the meeting.

Crested Butte Cross Country Super Stars

Crested Butte Cross Country Runs Strong at State! The CBCS girls cross country team placed third in the CO State 2A Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Running against kids from 20 other 2A schools, Erin Kelly placed 2nd, Amber Scott 9th, Abby Whiting 18th, Mina Moscatelli 22nd, Taylor O’Neal 50th. Two boys representing CBCS also participated and ran as individuals. Ian Boucher placed fifth overall, and Forrest Smith was 31st. Congratulations to all the cross country runners for their miles and miles of hard work—it paid off!

Girl Scouts Food Drive
The Girl Scouts’ (juniors) food drive runs through December 1. Any nonperishable food can be dropped at the designated boxes throughout the school. The Girl Scouts will take the food to the food bank to distribute in December.

CBCS Health Fair
CBCS will hold its student health fair on Wednesday, November 3. All students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9 and all new students will be screened.

STEP For Teens
STEP means Systematic Training for Effective Parenting Today. STEP for teens is a seven-week program, starting October 27, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The class is free to qualifying parents. For more information about the STEP program call Cheryl Coffey at 641-9199 or Rob Whiting at 596-8639.

Meds at School

We are not permitted to administer any medication to students without prior parental approval or instruction. The only meds that may be administered during the school day are those that a parent has brought in and that include written instruction from the parent. We will not be making phone calls home for verbal permission, but will be happy to keep medication for your child in the nurse’s office and make it available for him/her when needed. Thanks for your cooperation.

Chess Club Begins This Week
The Enrichment Program Chess Club will be starting this Thursday, November 4 at 3:45 p.m. for students grades 2 through 5 in room C103. If you have any questions, please contact Torrey Carroll at 641-7720, ext. 6205.

School Pictures
Individual student pictures will be taken in the MPR on Wednesday, November 10, beginning at 9 a.m. The photographer expects to be finished by late morning but will stay until afternoon kindergarteners arrive. Money envelopes will be sent home with your child this week and should be returned to teachers/photographer on picture day. While all students need to have a photo taken for their permanent records, they are not required to purchase them. If you are interested in purchasing pictures, you must do so on November 10, as the photographer does not accept late payment.

Spanish Conversation Group
The Spanish Conversation Group will have its first meeting next Tuesday, November 9 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the library. This group is open to all interested 6th through 12th graders and is organized and funded by the CBCS Enrichment Program. The group will meet the second Tuesday of each month. Shakespeare Workshops For Middle School
All middle school students will be treated to a Shakespeare Workshop by No Holds Bard on Monday, November 8 during their Language Arts classes. These workshops were organized by the CBCS Enrichment Program and funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley and the Jack H. and William M. Light Charitable Trust.

Celebrate the Beat—Motown!
It has begun—welcome back Tracy, Colleen and Adge! DREAM Team rehearsals begin Tuesday at 3:40 p.m. in the MPR. Please make sure your child actually wants to be there—this is an optional, extracurricular dance and the steps are harder and expectations higher. We need volunteers to help out the day of the show—please call Melissa Cunningham if you can help: 209-9560. We could still use a few more women for the parent/teacher dance—rehearsals will be Mondays and Wednesdays beginning November 3 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. No experience is necessary.

Old Rock Library Science Program
The Old Rock Library’s After School Science Program for kids in grades 1 through 5 continues, with these upcoming topic: November 10: Animal Autographs with the NPS. Join us on Wednesdays from 3:45 to 4:45 at the library! Free!

Hs Fall Athletic Banquet
The fall sports banquet for HS athletes will be held at the Club at Crested Butte, on Sunday, November 7, at 5 p.m. Meals for all athletes will be free and the cost for family members/guests will be $20 per person. RSVP directly to your student’s coach.

Opportunity for Juniors
GCEA will select four juniors in their service territory for opportunities next summer. The Youth Tour is a leadership trip to Washington, D.C., and the Youth Camp is a leadership program in Steamboat. See counseling office for application. The deadline is December 27.

Parents of Juniors
ACT/SAT test preparation can be expensive and inconvenient. Some junior parents have expressed an interest in pooling resources to host a Kaplan or Princeton Review Prep Course in Crested Butte. If you are interested in participating, please contact the school office by November 5. The program will not be district funded.

Financial Aid Night for Parents of Seniors
Financial Aid Night is scheduled for Wednesday, December 8 at 6:30 p.m. at CBCS. If you are completing the FAFSA, please plan to attend.
