Briefs Mt. Crested Butte

Crested Mountain Village doing its part
The developers of The Mall and Conference Building and Crested Mountain Village are holding up their end of a bargain aimed at improving the look of the slope-side buildings.

Earlier this fall the council expressed some concern over the look of the buildings and hesitated to allow more construction by that developer until he proved the buildings could be taken care of.
The developer has repainted the exterior of the Mall and Conference Building and has done some work around the property to “spruce it up,” according to community development coordinator Carlos Velado. “Overall, they’ve improved the look of the building from an aesthetic point of view,” he said.

Wildhorse awaits next move
The prospective owners of the five open foundations at the Wildhorse subdivision also did their part in making that site safer for the passing public. Chain link fencing has been installed at two locations in Mt. Crested Butte, blocking access and street-level views of the unfinished foundations.
The council agreed to continue the meeting with developer Brad Pauls, who will be taking ownership of the property January 1. They want to see a construction schedule in place to know exactly when work will begin on the subdivision, likely next spring. If work doesn’t start soon enough, they’ve requested a financial instrument, like a bond or letter of credit, be in place so they can take the foundations out themselves.
The council will meet November 1 to discuss the financial guarantees and the construction schedule to make sure they will meet the needs of the town, which labeled the properties a nuisance this fall.
