Chaney retiring from Tourism Association

Transition plan in the works.

On Tuesday, March 13, Jane Chaney publicly announced that she will be retiring from her position as the executive director of the Gunnison-Crested Butte Tourism Association (TA) this fall. The decision comes after nearly 9 years with the TA—Chaney was hired as marketing director in 2003 and promoted to executive director a few years later.

Chaney notified the TA president of her decision in January, providing nearly 11 months notice to allow for a smooth transition to a new director. Her last day will be November 15, and even then, Chaney will continue to fill an active roll in the Gunnison Valley community.
Chaney said that she sees retirement as a chance to be involved in new ways, taking on small marketing projects on the side and volunteering with organizations like Gunnison Country Partners, Cattleman’s Days—the list she named was long, and shared with the same unyielding energy she’s developed a reputation for.
“Believe it or not I’ve learned to mellow out over the last nine years,” Chaney said, sharing an anecdote from a previous boss who suggested she dial it back a little in Gunnison County lest she blow everyone out of their seats.
According to the statement released by the TA, the executive committee has a plan in place to ensure a smooth transition.
