Crested Butte town manager candidates narrowed down to 10 Skype interviews

Coming from both the private and public sector

The entire seven-member Crested Butte Town Council will get involved in the search for a new town manager now that the applicants have been cut from 99 to 10. A council subcommittee worked to whittle the applicants to the manageable number over the last two months.

“We are still looking and we are in the meat of the process but we are on schedule,” declared Crested Butte Mayor Aaron Huckstep. “Things have gone pretty smoothly so far.”
Huckstep said the remaining candidates are from all over the country and while some have extensive experience in the public sector, others are coming from a private business background.
“We will conduct Skype interviews with everyone by this Friday,” Huckstep explained. “After the interviews are completed at the end of the week, the council will hold an executive session where we will pick the finalists. We hope to get down to three to five people. That will be finished by the end of the month and at that time we will be able to announce the names of the people.”
Once that announcement is made, the council will bring in the finalists to Crested Butte. At that time, a “meet-and-greet” will be held so that interested members of the public can meet those who want the job. That will likely happen in early April. The council wants to make a job offer by the middle of April.
“We want the public and staff to be part of the process and involved in the selection,” said Huckstep. “We’ve asked for feedback from the staff along the way about how the town and town hall operates. We want to pick someone who fits in with this place and someone who will be able to successfully work with the staff. Looking at the ten people we have left, I think we have a lot of good candidates who will be able to do the job and be a good fit for Crested Butte.”
