Council ponies up for needs assessment

The council agreed to help fund a regional affordable housing needs assessment. Along with the county and other municipalities, the council agreed to allocate up to $15,000 for the survey. The hope is to start the assessment this year.

Electricity for your car

The council approved a space by the tennis courts to be used for a vehicle electric charging station. The town is partnering with the Gunnison County Election Association to install the charging station. Councilman Shaun Matusewicz voted against the station, saying he would have preferred a different location.

Sales tax revenue up

You may not believe this but sales tax in June was up in Crested Butte. Revenues increased 12.6 percent for the month. That brings the year-to-date sales tax figure to being almost 16 percent higher than last year. Cha ching!

Other stuff:

—Staff will come to the council with ideas of how to improve the public bathroom situation at the Visitor’s Center.

—Staff continues to entertain ways to expand affordable housing in town. They are looking at some inexpensive properties on the market to see if they could be purchased for deed-restricted housing.

—Work was completed to repair the dasher boards at Big Mine Ice Arena and plans are being made to address some bubbling on the new tennis court surface that will be repaired this fall or early next summer.
