RE1J preparing to begin hiring process for new superintendent

Timeline stretches from mid-November to July

The RE1J school board is working to lay out its timeline for hiring the next district superintendent. The position may be posted as early as mid-November.

Committees will be formed for screening applications and interviews, both up and down valley. There will be an administrative committee and a parent committee.

The position will close by early February, when screening of applications and interviews will begin. The district hopes to make an offer in April, with an official start date of July 1.

The board agreed to consult with the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) to ensure the best timing for the post, one that isn’t so early that nobody’s looking, but not so late that competition from other districts will overshadow its own posting.

Superintendent Doug Tredway explained, “If you get 20 or 30 applications, you’ll want to narrow that down to three to five strong applicants to interview.”

Board members agreed it might be prudent to bring CASB in to also help with the initial screening of the applications.
