Ski for the Crested Butte Nordic Team

Magic Meadows 7 this Sunday

by Laura Puckett Daniels, Marketing and Development Director

Ready to spend the weekend skiing with friends? Eating delicious food and hanging out at the yurt? All while supporting a good cause? Crested Butte Nordic is hosting the Magic Meadows 7 this Sunday, January 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This criterium-style ski event is exactly this: skiing, friends, food and libations, all to support the Crested Butte Nordic Team. This event is the primary fundraiser for the Crested Butte Nordic Team, helping to keep the programs affordable and accessible so more kids can participate.

The format of the Magic Meadows 7 is based on criterium racing, so skiers will ski laps around the yurt during the seven-hour time window. The skier with the most laps wins, but for most folks, this event is more about fun and community than about racing. This can be a great training event for the Alley Loop, a great way to raise money for the Team, or just a fun outing with your family.

Due to this event, there will be no Backcountry Bistro at the yurt this Sunday. The yurt will have snacks and beverages available for participants and volunteers, though. Register for the MM7 and you’ll still get access to Mountain Oven pastries, soup, hot chocolate, and adult beverages.

There are lots of ways you can support the Nordic Team this weekend. First, you can ski. Your registration fee will go towards the team, and any funds raised via pledges go to the team. Second, you can pledge money yourself. Drop off or mail a check to Crested Butte Nordic with “MM7” in the memo, or go online and use this form to donate directly to the Team: www.tfaforms.com/4690737.

Finally, you can volunteer. Crested Butte Nordic needs folks to make treats, corn bread, bread, and soup. These can be dropped off at the Nordic Center on Saturday, January 11 by 4 p.m. They also need volunteers out at the yurt to count laps, work the aid station, serve food, or stoke the fire. To volunteer, email Nordic Team head coach, Molly Susla, molly@cbnordic.org.

Registration for ages 14 and up (including adults) is $25 ahead of time and $30 the day-of at the yurt. Kids 13 and under can register for $10 at any time. You can register online at webscorer.com/register?raceid=204729. Skiers who have raised money via pledges get to ski for free. To recruit pledges, send your friends and family an email or text with this link so they can donate funds in your honor: www.tfaforms.com/4690737.

Come join us at the Yurt on the Magic Meadows trails for any amount of time on Sunday. This is a family-friendly event where hanging out, eating yummy food, and, of course, skiing (skate or classic) are encouraged. Come stay for one hour or ski for all seven hours. However you decide to participate makes a difference for the Crested Butte Nordic Team. Learn more about the Magic Meadows 7 at cbnordic.org.
