There will be a race for the Crested Butte town council this fall. Six people returned completed petitions before last Friday’s August 27 deadline to run for a council seat while two people will be running for mayor.

Both Ian Billick and Kent Cowherd have thrown their hat in the ring to be mayor. Both are long-time residents of the valley with experience on various boards. Billick has chaired the county planning commission while Cowherd has sat on the town council.
As for the council, there are four open seats. Anna Fenerty, Beth Goldstone, Chris Haver, Shaun Horne, Jason MacMillan and Jasmine Whelan hope to be elected to council. Three of the seats have a four-year term and one has a two-year term.

Three candidates currently sit on the town council. Haver was elected to the town council four years ago while MacMillan and Whelan were appointed this year to fill seats vacated by councilmembers who moved out of Crested Butte and had to step down.

Ballots are slated to go out October 8 with Election Day set for November 2.
