Gothic Mountain Tour on February 19

We are in the 17th year of hosting this unique event and are looking forward to another majestic circumnavigation of Gothic Mountain, skimo style. This 22-mile backcountry tour leaves from Town Ranch to ascend the shoulder of Mt. Crested Butte before traveling out Gothic Road, around the north aspect of Gothic Mountain before dropping into Slate River to finish at the Magic Meadows Yurt. Boasting an accumulated vert of 5,000 feet, this is a fantastic training tour for the Grand Traverse. Interested in volunteering? Email Shay at [email protected].

No Sunday Bistro February 19

There will not be a bistro this Sunday, February 19, to accommodate the finish of the Gothic Mountain Tour. Skiers are welcome to hang out and spectate the finish of this event but bear in mind that we will not be serving up the usual spread of hot drinks and tasty goodies this weekend. Bistro will return next Sunday, February 26 and continue through mid-March.

Please stay on groomed trails

Venturing off trail is loads of fun, however, we must insist that skiers and snowshoers using our trails stick to what’s groomed and leave the rest untouched. Most of our trail system traverses private lands thanks to the myriad of easements and negotiations secured with local landowners and the CB Land Trust. Skiing off trail is not only trespassing on private property, but also jeopardizes access for grooming in the future. To explore off trail, please visit any of the winter trailheads around Crested Butte. Additionally, our private property owners reserve the right to allow or deny dogs on their property. Please be sure your furry friends are enjoying their snow time only on trails where dogs are allowed. Thank you for helping us protect access for our spectacular trail system in the days to come!

Yoga at the Yurt

Join us to experience the bliss of yoga in a unique, rustic-chic setting. Starting this Saturday, February 18, Thrive Yoga will be offering classes out at the Magic Meadows Yurt from 9:30-10:30 a.m. This is part of an eight-class series that runs through April 8. $40 per person includes the Fireside Yoga class, use of a travel mat provided by Thrive, tea, and a trail pass to get to and from the yurt. Fee does not include ski gear, which can be rented from CB Nordic. Sign up online at the Thrive website at thriveyogacrestedbutte.com/event-listing.

CB Land Trust Winter Field Trip

Ski or snowshoe with CBLT staff members out to the Magic Meadows Yurt where you’ll meet representatives from partner organizations to learn about the work they do on conserved lands. On Friday, February 24 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., staff from the Crested Butte Avalanche Center will share and demo some of the great work that they do keeping our community safe in the backcountry. Skiers meet at the Gronk, snowshoers meet at the Alien Shack, refreshments provided at the Yurt. Can’t make it this Friday? Not to worry, there is another outing with the Land Trust on Friday, March 24 featuring the Crested Butte Museum. For more information, Jess at [email protected].

The Nordic Center is located at Second and Whiterock in downtown Crested Butte. Please reserve all day passes, rentals, lessons and services at least 24 hours in advance at cbnordic.org.
