Final results shared February 22

Council member Roman Kolodziej will not be recalled from the Mt. Crested Butte town council. The town of Mt. Crested Butte shared the final results of the special election to potentially recall him on Thursday, February 22. Based on the final tally, Kolodziej will not be recalled, and he will stay on the town council for his remaining term which expires November 2026.
Town clerk Tiffany O’Connell shared with the Crested Butte News that 265 ballots were received and counted. The breakdown of votes is as follows: 160 against his recall and 102 for recall. The town sent 1,001 ballots to registered voters.
Due to a printing discrepancy on the ballots, the town accepted all mail-in ballots postmarked by February 13 (Election Day) and received by 5 p.m. on February 21. The town received and counted 227 ballots by Election Day, with 38 more valid ballots arriving in time for the February 21 deadline.
Kolodziej told the Crested Butte News, “I’m thankful voters have kept me in place so I can continue to advocate for them and my entire community.” He also shared, “I hope more than 25% of registered voters show up for the next election.”
The four candidates who ran to take his seat if there was a recall included Peter Esselstyn, Bruce Nation, Tom Rolleczek and Bobbie Sferra. Each candidate has indicated they are interested in running for town council during the next regular election in November when four seats will be available.
