Sawtooth 2 on schedule for fall completion

Gunnison County’s Sawtooth 2 housing development in Gunnison is on schedule and Fading West, the company building the 32 modular apartment units at their facility in Buena Vista, plans to set them in place in early August. Gunnison County manager Matthew Birnie said the units are now in production and will be coming off the factory line and heading to Gunnison the first week of August. “So that’s right on time for a September or October occupancy,” he told Gunnison County commissioners during their meeting on June 4. The Sawtooth 2 site near the Gunnison Fairgrounds had a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, June 5. The site preparation, utility work, foundations and sidewalks will be completed prior to the units being delivered. Birnie credited the City of Gunnison for an efficient permitting process that has helped keep things on track.

Highway 50 Middle Bridge meeting next week

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will host another public meeting with Gunnison County next Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the commissioners’ room of the Gunnison County courthouse to provide updates on the US Highway 50 Middle Bridge closure at Blue Mesa Reservoir. The meeting will cover bridge repair progress and reopening schedules.

The County Road 26 bypass now has some additional release times, which can be found at www.gunnisoncounty.org/1078/Hwy-50-Bridge-Closure.

Kebler Pass Road opened on Friday, May 28, providing an additional route west of the county, and Birnie said using a flagger vehicle at each end to ensure vehicle size and weight compliance has worked well.
