Mt. CB brings back e-bike rebate program

See you on the Rec Path!

For the third summer, the town of Mt. Crested Butte is once again offering an e-bike rebate program to residents. The goal of the program is to promote environmentally friendly means of transportation and reduce traffic congestion by encouraging residents to use e-bikes to commute to work, events and activities.

Mt. Crested Butte residents or town employees who purchase a new Class 1, 2 or 3 e-bike in 2025 have the opportunity to apply to receive a $500 rebate. If the e-bike is purchased from a Gunnison County retailer, the applicant will earn an additional $50 rebate, for a total of $550. If the applicant purchases an e-bike from a Mt. Crested Butte retailer, they will earn another $50 rebate for a total of $600.

During their June 17 meeting, the town council agreed to fund an initial $10,000 toward the 2025 program. The council also agreed to allow retroactive rebates to any new e-bikes purchased earlier this year from January 1 and on.

Last year, the town issued 28 e-bike rebates, totaling $14,550, according to town clerk Tiffany O’Connell. Additionally, the town issued 31 AMI-restricted e-bike rebates totaling $45,190 through a state rebate program which ended June 15. The council plans to monitor the demand this season and re-evaluate the budget and requirements as needed.

The e-bike rebates are limited to one rebate per person, and previous recipients of the town’s e-bike rebates are not eligible for further rebates, said O’Connell. Additionally, full suspension e-bikes do not qualify, and the rebate cannot exceed the cost of the e-bike.

Applicants must provide proof of residence in Mt. Crested Butte. Visit the town’s website at mtcb.colorado.gov/projects-initiatives/e-bike-rebate-programs for more information and the full list of requirements to qualify for a rebate.
