The warm, dry and windy weather of the past couple weeks has significantly increased the fire danger in Gunnison County. There are currently no fire restrictions in place, however residents and visitors should exercise extreme caution with campfires, charcoal grills and agricultural burning.
No open burning is allowed during Red Flag Warnings. For information on Red Flag Warnings, check the National Weather Service forecast page for the Gunnison area. Red Flag Warning information may also be obtained by calling the US Forest Service at 970-641-0471. The Gunnison Regional 911 Center will also post any Red Flag Warnings on their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Gunnison911.

Open fires are not permitted in the town or city limits of Crested Butte and Gunnison. Fires are only permitted in pits, barrels or similar containers in Mt. Crested Butte. Gunnison County ordinance requires that persons igniting controlled burns or open fires in unincorporated parts of the county contact The Gunnison Regional 911 Center before starting them at (970) 641-8200 ext 1.
