Arrested after failing to appear in court
Two of the people involved in the ongoing Gunnison County jail debacle have been arrested on the Front Range. Tawnya Sponable and Joseph Stromayer were picked up in Jefferson County on felony warrants stemming from the failure to show for their arraignment dates in early December.
Sponable, a former Gunnison County jail employee, was arrested earlier this year on charges of conspiracy to commit perjury, first-degree official misconduct, conspiracy to introduce contraband, as well as false reporting, theft under $500 and possession of a schedule II controlled substance after a 10-month Colorado Bureau of Investigation inquiry into illegal activity at the Gunnison County Jail.
After her arrest in Littleton, Colo., Sponable was transferred to Gunnison County Jail where she is being held on $40,000 bond before returning to court Monday, December 21.
Stromayer was transferred to Delta County Jail before being released on $100,000 bond. No information was available for when he will appear in court next.
