Judge Eden retiring
Judge Ben Eden informed the town of Mt. CB that he is retiring and does not intend to renew his contract with the town when it is up in April. The town has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking municipal judge services. “Judge Eden has said he is amenable to continue to serve as municipal judge until we get the position filled,” said town manager Carlos Velado in a memo to the town council. Judge Eden has served with the town for 20 years.
Finance committee
The town council appointed council member Steve Morris and former Mt. CB mayor Janet Farmer to the town’s finance committee. The finance committee will work with finance director Karl Trujillo on the annual budget, the annual audit and the five-year plan.
Planning commission opening
The town is looking to fill a vacant seat on the Mt. Crested Butte planning commission. The appointment expires in April 2028. Interested Mt. CB residents may apply by submitting a letter of interest to [email protected] by Wednesday, April 2 at 5 p.m.
Sales tax down
Velado told the council that the town’s sales tax was down about 17% in January. “That’s not insignificant,” he said. “Usually, first quarter sales tax is our largest collection of sales tax.” Velado said town finance director Karl Trujillo will be at the first meeting of April once they have crunched February data to discuss the state of affairs and potential impacts.
