Junior Nordic Team in Aspen

Headed to USSA juniors next weekend

The Crested Butte and Gunnison Junior Nordic Ski Team (CBGNT) again posted solid results in this past weekend’s Rocky Mountain Nordic Junior National Qualifier races, hosted by the Aspen Valley Ski Club in Aspen.

Leading the charge for the team with her first victory of the season was Hannah Smith, who posted the win in the girl’s five-kilometer classic race on Friday, January 16.
Smith followed up that effort with a fine third place in the girl’s five-kilometer mass-start skate race on Saturday, January 17.
Dawson Stucki placed well in the boy’s 10-kilometer classic event on Friday, skiing to a solid top-20 result in the national class field. Ian Boucher continued his winning ways by dominating the boy’s three-kilometer races on both days. Boucher continued his undefeated season in dominating fashion, and is looking to ski well next week in two very competitive races, including skiers from all over the western United States.
Pharwit Durgan continued his improvement with a very good effort in the boy’s three-kilometer skate race by out-sprinting several competitors in the final 100 meters. Forrest Smith posted a fantastic top-10 in his first race of the season, the boy’s three-kilometer classic.
Kai Sherman skied to two top-10 results in his three-kilometer races as well, with his fifth-place showing in the mass-start three-kilometer skate race on Saturday being the highlight.
The CBGNT will be heading to Heber City, Utah next weekend to compete against the entire Mountain Region in the USSA junior “Super-Qualifier.” Stay tuned for those results.
