Congratulations Rebecca! Crested Butte/Gunnison’s own Rebecca Dussault won the 36th American Birkebeiner Nordic Marathon in Hayward, Wisc., last Saturday with a time of 2:26:39.5. The 50k Birkie is North America’s largest and most prestigious Nordic event attracting over 7, 000 skiers and 15,000 spectators.
More skating: Additional public skate times have been added to the ice rink schedule. Thursdays 9 to 10 p.m., Fridays 9 to 10 p.m., and all day Saturdays are now open for public skate. Call 349-0974 for a full ice rink schedule.

Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe Tour/Dessert at the Yurt, March 10: Ski or snowshoe under the full moon on our expertly groomed trails for a beautiful evening outside and rendezvous at our magic meadows yurt for hot beverages and delectable desserts. $25 for adults and $20 for kids includes guide and treats. 1st Annual 12 Hours of Crested Butte, March 14: Check this new, fun, crazy event out—an epic 12-hour lap race on the Bench trails above the Nordic Center, with teams, themes, costumes, local legends, new heroes, and great food, beer and schwag! The Progressive Bonfire Dinner Returns, March 21: This unique dining experience is a major fundraiser for the Gunnison/ Crested Butte Junior Nordic Team! Ski or snowshoe from course to course, under the stars, with a warm bonfire and gourmet Italian food at each station. Saturday, March 21, at the Town Ranch Trails (behind Crested Butte Community School). “Seating” Times: 5, 5:30, 6 and 6:30 p.m. Cost: $35 for adults and $15 for children. The Crested Butte Nordic Center is a full-service cross-country ski center providing professional lessons and complete rental packages for skate and classical skiing, as well as ice skating, snowshoeing, and sledding. The Nordic Center maintains more than 50 kilometers of groomed trails via three trailheads, around the scenic outskirts of Crested Butte.
