Crested Butte Town Council taps Levy to fill seat through November 2 decks

She not only has experience, she was the only one to apply…

A familiar face will be joining the Crested Butte Town Council through November. The council agreed to appoint former councilmember Margot Levy to fill the seat of Kimberly Metsch, who resigned from the board earlier this month due to health reasons.

Levy was the only person who had sent a letter of interest to the town. In her letter, she pointed out that she had experience dealing with annexations, since she was on the council during the Verzuh annexation. She has been through eight budget cycles and the council is preparing to tackle another one starting next month. She also said she knew the people in town hall and would be a quick study. Levy also indicated she had no plans to run for a council seat in the upcoming November election.
“I think it is wonderful that Margot has stepped up,” said councilperson Leah Williams. “Her experience will be helpful.”
Mayor Alan Bernholtz said he was somewhat disappointed that a person who might run in November didn’t try to get some experience now. “I think it is unfortunate that anyone thinking about running in November didn’t express an interest to step up,” he said. “It would have given them a taste of what to expect.”
The council will officially notify Levy of her new job and she will be sworn in at the August 4 meeting.

Other appointments

The council appointed Kevin Krill to the Board of Zoning and Architectural Review (BOZAR). He replaces Melissa Belz. Krill has a degree in landscape architecture. He also went through the BOZAR process during a rehab of his historic home in 2003.
Leah Williams was appointed to take the place of Metsch on the Rural Transportation Authority board. She is also a member of the Mountain Express board, so she knows transportation.
Williams informed the council that Chris Morgan, the former mayor of Mt. Crested Butte, had been appointed to the Mountain Express at-large seat. He fills the seat vacated by Bill Dickerson. Mt. Crested Butte councilman Gary Keiser will now chair that board.
