Denver-based architectural firm selected for Performing Arts Center
Slaterpaull Architects of Denver was selected from a pool of five firms to design the new performing arts facility slated for construction in Mt. Crested Butte. The Crested Butte Music Festival (CBMF) in cooperation with the Mt. Crested Butte Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will build the facility. The town of Mt. Crested Butte will donate the site. The performing arts facility will be constructed on land that currently serves as a free parking lot, just north of Treasury Road.
The conceptual design process will kick off in December and should be completed in May, according to the CBMF. Mt. Crested Butte Mayor William Buck was pleased with the decision. “The architect selection of Slaterpaull was unanimous among the selecting committee,” he said. “Their presentation was very complete, organic and smooth and afforded us a high level of confidence in them.”

Council approves fee hikes
During their November 17 meeting, the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council voted to approve Resolution 11, which establishes a revised schedule of fees for the processing and review of applications submitted to the Community Development Department.
In a previous meeting on November 3, Mt. Crested Butte Mayor William Buck had asked Mt. Crested Butte Community Development Director Bill Racek about the town’s fee schedule and whether it was adequate to cover costs of administration. Racek and Community Development Administrative Assistant Theresa Henry addressed the fee schedule amendments before the council on November 17, proposing a $75 conveyance fee and upping the sign-permitting fee by $25. The council passed Resolution 11 unanimously.

Town of Mt. Crested Butte Christmas party
Mt. Crested Butte Town Council’s November 17 meeting was ringing with holiday cheer. After having a potluck-style celebration at the Town Hall last year, the council explored other options for the ’09 holiday party. Suggested venues ranged from the Avalanche to Trackers to 9380 Prime. The party is set for December 18, although they still haven’t chosen a venue. Party on.
