Crested Butte Community School renovations right on track

District still has $5 million in bond money

The renovation of Crested Butte Community School is right on schedule and still within the budget.

Blythe Group & Co. representative Andy Anderson, who is overseeing the Gunnison RE1J district-wide renovation, told the school board at a regular meeting on Monday, November 9 that the reconstruction of Ninth Street is now complete. It runs on the east side of the school by the new ballfield.
“Ninth Street has been inspected by the town and accepted except for a few minor punch list items,” Anderson said. He will go over the punch list with the town on November 17, when both sides will agree on which of the items need to be taken care of this year, and which can be left until spring. The road is open to the public.
The new Tommy Villanueva Memorial Ballfield has also gotten a final inspection by the town and the Blythe Group, and received final approval. Like Ninth Street, there are several things that still need to be completed before a final approval, but most will wait until spring.
The elementary end of the building is sealed and heated, allowing contractors to work on the interior of the space over the winter. All of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing is on its way in, Anderson said.
The other end of the building, which will expand the area of the middle and high school, is nearly enclosed as well.
Since the district’s January bond sale, more than $48.5 million of the total $54 million bond has been committed to the renovation effort, Anderson said.
The project should be completed by August 2010.
