New signs of the times at CBMR

New base area signage features updated trail maps, ski-by location

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is bolstering its base area signage with improved trail maps and better accessibility for skiers who need to sneak a peek before jumping on the lift.

Because the new signs are no longer compliant with town code’s landscaping and size requirements, the Mt. Crested Butte Town Council was asked during their November 17 meeting to approve the revised signs and their new locations.
CBMR proposed moving the Silver Queen and Red Lady base terminal signs from inside the maze to outside for better ski-by visibility, as well as adding a new sign in between Red Lady and the Elevation Hotel.
“We’d like to move them to the front of the lifts so people can be informed before they reach the lifts, and don’t have to back out of the maze,” said CBMR’s Director of Planning and Permitting John Sale. “They will be strategically placed so skiers can ski right up to them, and are updated to correspond with our new trail maps. Hopefully they will be a little more readable and accurate.”
The council approved CBMR’s request. “The intention is pretty obvious—and I like a bigger sign,” said Mt. Crested Butte Mayor William Buck. The new signs will be installed by Wednesday, November 25.
