Resort ready for busy holiday weeks

World class tubing hill packed

The ski area is ready to kick into high gear for the busy holiday season. Most of the main mountain trails are open and the ski patrol and snow packers are working on the Extreme Limits. Crews were back in Teocalli Bowl on Tuesday.

The busiest days are expected to be the beginning of next week with the major arrival days being this coming Saturday and Sunday. According to Crested Butte Mountain Resort Chief Operating Officer Ken Stone, the peak days will see about 6,000 skiers a day on the hill. This week will finish up with about 4,000 skiers a day hitting the slopes.
“We’ll be very busy until about the third of January,” Stone said. “December will probably be about 9 percent off from last year but it appears to me that we’re seeing a greater percentage of skiers out of Oklahoma and Texas than we did last year.”
Stone said that the visitors that are here are having a good time. “We had hundreds of people on the new tubing hill Monday,” he said. “It’s a world class tubing hill with a serpentine course with big side walls. It’s really quite a thrill. The whole Adventure Park has been a big hit. The restaurants have been full and the sleigh ride dinners are sold out.”
Stone also said the forecast is calling for up to a foot of snow this week. Happy holidays!
