Mick Osmundson on cusp of return to Junior National Race

Fires off podium finishes in Winter Park

Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team J2 (ages 15-17 years old) alpine ski racer Mick Osmundson is peaking at just the right time, with a number of solid results in speed events at Winter Park last week.
Racers were met with tough conditions in Winter Park as the snow pummeled them the entire week.
“Pretty much the whole week we had flat light and white-out conditions,” says Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team J2 head coach Brett Wagenheim.
Osmundson opened the week with a third-place finish among J2 racers in the first Super G race on Saturday, January 23, and followed with a fifth-place finish in a second Super G on Sunday, January 24.
He then stepped it up for the two downhill races on January 26 and 27, taking second place both days among J2 racers.
“He’s skiing really well,” says Wagenheim. “Everything is starting to click in the speed events.”
Things are looking good for Osmundson as far as a return to the J2 Junior Nationals as well. He is currently ranked fifth in the Rocky Mountain Division; they will take the top eight to Junior Nationals.
He can seal the deal with solid results at the last qualifying event of the season, a series of slalom races at Beaver Creek Friday and Saturday, February 5-6.
The J2 Junior Nationals are in Sugarloaf, Maine the first week in March.
