Zadra sentenced to 28 days in jail, probation

Sentence won’t start until likely appeal is over

Former Gunnison County Jail captain Michelle Zadra was sentenced to 28 days on the other side of the bars, 288 hours of community service and six years of supervised probation after a jury convicted her in late April of seven felony counts of first-degree perjury, three counts of official misconduct and false reporting to authorities.

The charges came after a Colorado Bureau of Investigation probe into illegal activity at the jail found that Zadra had listened to privileged phone conversations between Joseph Stromayer, an inmate at the jail and the source of some disruption at the jail, and his attorney. Then Zadra lied about it while under oath.
Zadra’s attorney, Art Trezise, indicated that he would appeal the outcome of the case. The former jailer’s sentence will be deferred until the judgment from that appeal comes in.
